Abstract

This study aims to determine the mathematical communication skills of junior high school students. This research was conducted at Al Falah Banjaran Middle School. With class VII D as an experimental class of 20 students and class VII E as a control class of 20 students. This study uses a 5 point instrument of communication skills of junior high school students who have been tested and declared valid and reliable. This research is a descriptive study, where researchers analyze the difficulties experienced by students in working on students' communication skills. The results showed that students had difficulty in problem number 3 with indicators explaining ideas, situations and mathematical relations verbally and in writing with a percentage of 57.14%, in addition students also had difficulty in question number 5 with indicators stating daily events into mathematical symbols with a percentage of 41.96%. Overall the experimental class is said to have difficulty in filling in the matter of mathematical communication skills with an average percentage of 59.6%. While the control class can be said to be able to fill in the matter of mathematical communication skills because it exceeds 60% with a percentage of 63.36%.
